My Results From Cosmetic Acupuncture Treatments

Back in June 2008 I discovered Cosmetic Acupuncture when I took a Foods for Natural Beauty class with Dr. Cindy Quach. Based on principles of Chinese Medicine, acupuncture has been used thousands of years to treat many illnesses. Today, it is being used in place of plastic surgery to take years off your face! Learning about that I just had to try it out for myself, so I visited a neighborhood health spa in Vancouver last October for 5 treatments, one every 2 weeks. I'm happy to report that after each treatment I could see an overall improvement on my skin, more clarity and freshness, and felt generally better health wise. I recall a treatment I had the day after my Nike Human Race 10k Run that releaved aches and tension in my legs. I was pleasantly surprised. To give my readers more information on Cosmetic Acupuncture, I interviewed Amanda Biesel, Founder of SKN Rejuvenation Clinic to share with us what her clients can expect with Cosmetic Acupunture treatments at her clinic.

The Lovely: What is Cosmetic Acupuncture?

Amanda: Cosmetic Acupunture is the truest form of anti-aging medicine. It is both corrective and preventative and works on balancing your internal system while simultaneously improving the look of your skin.

It begins with an intensive health intake which allows me to know what is happening inside your body. The body acupuncture points are chosen based on this health intake. I will also prescribe a Chinese herbal formula to help boost your internal system. Your health and the look of your skin are connected. The procedure is completed with facial acupuncture which tightens and brightens the skin. The treatment is also great for sufferers of acne and rosacea.

The Lovely: What benefits will it give to the person receiving the treatments?

Amanda: The benefits of cosmetic acupuncture are:

  • Evens out the skin tone

  • Tightens the skin by increasing the production of collagen

  • Reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

  • Helps reduce the size of pores

  • Brightens the eyes

  • Improves muscle tone

  • Decreases eye puffiness

  • Your skin will have natural glow

  • Decrease or elimination of acne breakouts

There are also positive side effects such as improved sleep, digestion, reduced stress and anxiety. Women who are going through menopause have reported a reduction in hot flashes and night sweats. This is because Cosmetic Acupuncture works to balance the hormones.

The Lovely: What is the ideal treatment plan that will yield the best result?

Amanda: The ideal treatment plan for long lasting results is 10 treatments in total. It is best to have 10 treatments twice a week for five weeks or once a week for ten weeks. The maintenance is one treatment every six weeks.

You can also have a cosmetic acupuncture treatment the day of or before a special event to brighten up your skin. A very popular treatment is The Royal Jade Acupunture Facial which combines cosmetic acupuncture with a Royal Jade Facial using a luxurious skincare line.

The Lovely: What should we expect from each session?

Amanda: Each session is progressive and your skin will start looking healthier and feeling tighter with each session. I can actually feel your skin change at about treatment five. It is like I am needling a different face.

The Lovely: And, who is your ideal candidate?

Amanda: I have three ideal candidates. Women aged 28-32, this is when the collagen and elastin in our skin is starting to decrease so by beginning cosmetic acupuncture at this age we are essentially slowing the aging process down. Your skin will tighten and stay tighter longer. Having said this all women do age at different rates. We see 50 year old women who look like they are 30, and 25 year old women who look 40. So it is ideal to begin early on to prevent the aging of the skin.

It is also a great corrective treatment for women who begin noticing the signs of aging. It will reduce fine lines and wrinkles and really brighten up and bring a glow back to the skin.

And lastly, clients who suffer from acne and rosacea. It works to balance the hormones and improve the texture of the skin in acne clients. For those who suffer from rosacea it is great to expel heat from the skin. Rosacea and acne clients are highly recommended to take herbal medicine as well.

We do provide clients with nutritional and supplement recommendations too.
