Sun Safe Skin Care

I spent one week in Honolulu in May and it was a wonderful break from the daily grind at work. We stayed at a beach house in Ewa Beach area and every morning I woke up with the sound of he waves, the warmth of the sun on my skin and the wind through my hair. I also had to study for my PMP examination so it gave me the downtime I needed to focus.

Every afternoon we would sit on the veranda as the sun beamed through and rested on our skin. Needless to say I had sun burn all over. It was painful. I was surprised I allowed that to happen to me! I am so careful when it comes to skincare for my face but I took for granted the rest of my body. I mean I donot go out without sunblock on my face for as long as I can remember. But when it comes to the rest of my body, it is really about being lazy. I have to admit lathering sunblock all over my body was not something I looked forward to do, especially recalling the greasy feeling as the after affect. However, my fear of sun damaged skin is greater. The next day we headed to the nearest Costco and got myself oil free sunblock and used it 15 minutes before sun exposure. When it comes to choosing a sunblock, choose one that provides coverage for both UVA nad UVB, and at a minimum SPF value of 15. Sunblock have come a long way and we have many options to available to us. Here are a few I've used regularly that have worked for me:

  1. Oil of Olay Complete All Day UV Moisture Lotion SPF 15 - Normal - an effective daily moisturizer and sunscreen

  2. Hawaiian Tropic Oil Free Faces Sheer Sunscreen SPF 30 - a lightweight full spectrum coverage that won't clog pores

  3. Ombrelle Water Proof Sunblock SPF 45 - for hotter days when you hit the beach and to be used for your entire body

Have a sun safe summer!
